Hiring a roofing company can be a stressful and confusing time. Whether you choose to hire us or not, at Noble Roofing we want customers to make an informed decision. There are several things you should look at when hiring a roofing contractor.
- Check if the contractor is bonded, licensed and insured
- Check that they are certified
- Check that they are local
Is the company bonded, licensed, and insured?
It is important that a company is both bonded and insured. Bonded means that the requested service will be performed no matter what happens with the roofing company.
A bond is meant to protect the buyer’s interest. It is a guarantee that the work being performed is according to their license.
Companies must get licensed in each of the states that they work in. For example, Noble Roofing has an MHIC (Maryland Home Improvement Commission) License and Virginia license. This allows us to perform roofing work in these states. These certifications prove that the contracting company has taken the necessary exams and passed them. These exams have requirements such as number of years of experience. There are additional requirements for specific professions.
You can look up a company’s MHIC license here. Noble Roofing’s MHIC license is: 114642
You can look up a company’s Virginia Contracting license here. Noble Roofing’s VA license is: 2705043854
Insurance helps make sure that the company can take care of emergency issues that occur. This includes general liability and workers comp. Noble Roofing is bonded and insured, Noble Roofing also has its contractor license in Virginia and Maryland.
Check that your Roofing Contractor is Certified
A lot of vendors such as GAF and CertainTeed offer certifications to contractors. These certifications allow contractors to offer enhanced warranties to their customers. Contractors must go through the application process and get accepted in order to be certified. In some cases there are multiple levels of certifications that provide even more benefits to customers.
Noble Roofing is GAF, CertainTeed, and TAMKO certified for instance. You can read about the GAF Certification here.
Verify that the Roofing Contractor is Local
There are many companies that have “storm chasers”. During a bad storm, these contractors will come to sell you a roof replacement. Although this can be convenient, these contractors may not be around if you ever need any repairs or warranty work. Choose a reputable company that has a business in the area.
