Spotting Hail Damage on Your Home

No one wants to experience a hailstorm; even hail that can fit in the palm of your hand can be very dangerous, and your roof takes the brunt of this intense elemental damage. Of course, you can trust on your residential roofing to protect you, but how do you tell if your roof has experienced damage from hail? Noble Roofing explains how.

The Tell-Tale Signs

The thing about hail damage is that it’s not that obvious even if you just experienced a strong hailstorm. What you should watch out for is the roof and the auxiliary pieces like the gutters and downspouts. When you notice dents in these areas, then your home has experienced hail damage.

What to Check On Your Roof

Hail damage is similar to signs of storm damage. In the case of hail storms though, the damage is more physical. Check if you have any chipped shingles or broken tiles—while these can resist water damage, they can easily break apart when hail batters it repeatedly.

Take a closer look at your shingles if the damage isn’t obvious; if the granules in the shingles have been knocked or scraped, it’s a sure sign of hail damage.

Check for Hail Splatter

Sometimes, the hail itself doesn’t land on your roof in one piece; in most cases, it just shatters and leaves what you call a “hail splatter”, which is basically a water mark where the hailstone dispersed. They don’t pose any real danger but they can cause some staining on your roof.
