Roof Care In The Fall

Winter is coming! If there’s a time for a routine roof check-up, it’d be the fall time. The winter time comes with temperatures dipping well below freezing, snow piling inches high, and ice build up. To make sure that your home is in prime condition to deal with this weather, inspect your roof!

Here’s a checklist on what to look out for:

  • Clogged or damaged gutters
  • Bent, broken, or missing shingles
  • Any debris on the roof
  • Mold or algae
  • Leaks in your attic
  • Loose nails or bolts

The first step after inspecting your roof is to clear up any debris; leaves, branches, anything that doesn’t belong up there. Trimming branches off trees surrounding your home will help reduce the cleaning time. Fall time means leaves are littering the yard and probably your gutters too, so give that a good cleaning to unclog any holes. Clogged gutters in the winter can result in ice buildup, which can lead to moisture being trapped under the shingles. If the moisture continues to stay trapped, it can cause mold to grow and affect your wellbeing. Make sure to repair or replace anything that’s loose, bent, or broken to prevent further damage.

It’s best to have these little problems fixed before it becomes a bigger issue. If there’s any damage to the gutters or roof give us a call and we can come check it out for you!
