Getting Your Home Winter Ready

Now that it’s truly autumn with cold nights that make you not want to leave your house, it’s time to think about getting your house ready for winter. With the temperatures dropping drastically the second the sun sets, we have to make sure the house doesn’t do the same. The list below will help you keep your house at a comfortable, toasty temperature without having you drown in heating bills.

1.) Check Insulation

Let’s keep all the heat inside and not have it seeping out. We are all working too hard to keep the house, so let’s make sure there’s good insulation to keep it inside. You can lose up to 60% of your heat to bad insulation.

Go check the attic for proper insulation and make sure there’s no holes in the roof for leaks. You can also update your siding for better insulation. Give us a call to check out all the siding options available.

2.) Inspect HVAC

The worst thing that can happen in the winter time is having your heat not work. When temperatures outside are in the thirties, inside can easily reach below fifty. Having your HVAC inspected in the fall can prevent that from happening. Check for dirty filters, faulty parts, and run a thermostat test.

3.) Check Doors and Windows

There has probably been a time where you’ve sat next to a window or door and felt the cold air wafting in. Let’s not have that happen in your home so that unnecessary heat isn’t being used. Upgrading old windows and doors to be more energy efficient with good seals can really help keep the cold out.

If you’re thinking any of these things could give you problems during the winter time, now is the time to get it fixed. We can come inspect your home and give you a quote anytime, just give us a call at (703) 404-0505.
