According to a Bloomberg report, Tesla’s Buffalo Gigafactory has recently open 24/7 and has 80 employees per shift manufacturing Solar Roof shingles. They are working hard to complete around 11,000 orders that have been requested since May 2018. Now that production is in full swing, the company has announced that the first solar roofs should be coming out this summer!
There have been a few delays due to some production issues in the past and a recent merger with SolarCity a few months prior to this date. However, Tesla is refocusing on fulfilling orders and getting these tiles onto their customers’ roofs. But here’s the catch… it seems like the installations are being limited to California for the time being.
So, the good news is that solar roofs are happening. The bad news is that it’s been a slow start and it may take a while for this technology to become more mainstream. It also takes additional training to install these tiles so that they work to power your home, so we’ll cross this bridge when the technology comes closer to our area.
